Tell Congress to Close the Skills Gap

The Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act (Perkins Act) helps students prepare for secondary and postsecondary education by providing access to federal dollars to offset the cost of career and technical education (CTE) programs. Authorization for the Perkins Act ended in 2013, but it has been operating under annual funding bills since then.

This program is separate from the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), which focuses on placing adults in in-demand jobs. The Perkins Act is instead geared towards younger individuals and plays an important role in closing the skills gap.

The Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act makes needed reforms to the program and passed the House by a voice vote on June 22, 2017. Contact your Senators and ask them to follow the House, and reauthorize and reform Perkins to close the skills gap.
