LAWMAKERS TO LOOK AT TWO, PRO SMALL BUSINESS BILLS. MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD!
SUPPORT SB 77 - Employee Misclassification
Introduced by Senator John Schickel (Union -11), SB 77 creates a clear and concise line between a business and a subcontractor. This legislation creates a "safe harbor" from claims by subcontractor employees for workers comp, unemployment insurance, wage & hour violations, etc. Court cases have previously awarded benefits to subcontractor employees from the business that hired them, and this bill provides critical protection. A hearing on SB 77 will be held on Tuesday, February 7.

SUPPORT HB 277 - Local Tax Payment Paperwork
Representative Jody Richards (Bowling Green - 20) tackles the ridiculous amount of red tape caused by local payroll and business license tax filings. HB 277 requires the Secretary of State create a standardized form and that all local jurisdictions be required to accept the standard form. Small businesses providing services across different counties and cities know the dozens of different local tax forms create a paperwork nightmare. HB 277 begins the process of bringing efficiency and common sense to the local tax filing process. A hearing on HB 277 will be held on Wednesday, February 8.
