Louisiana Businesses Deserve Payment from Local Government
Louisiana Businesses Deserve Payment from Local Government
SUPPORT SB 499!
Currently in Louisiana, if a business contracts with local government and that local government does not pay their bill, a small business is helpless in collecting any amount owed. While the business provided their services or goods in good faith and completed the contract, in Louisiana -- even when a court enters a judgment on a contract in favor of a vendor -- a local government still has the option of simply refusing to pay.
SB 499 directs the State Bond Commission (after a final judgment has been issued) to not issue new bonds to a local government that has not paid their bills. The local government will no longer be able to simply ignore judgments against them. Just as if your child maxed out his/her credit card, the responsible action is pay down the credit card, not ask for a credit line increase.
Urge your senator to SUPPORT SB 499! It’s the responsible action to take, and it will help Louisiana businesses collect payment for work they have performed!
