It's Time to Pass Meaningful Workers' Comp Reform in Tennessee!
A sweeping reform bill – Senate Bill 200 and House Bill 194 – to overhaul our state’s broken workers’ comp system is beginning to be heard in committees.
Today, workers’ comp in Tennessee is overly bureaucratic and too complex for many employers and employees, which inhibits job growth, investment and relocation.
• Removes the avenue to court during the middle of a claim, eliminating “race to the courthouse” cases and sharpening the focus of participants to settle a claim in a timely fashion.
• Ensures a neutral application of the workers’ compensation law (eliminates “liberal construction”).
• Clarifies injury causation definition to say that only injuries that arise “primarily in the course and scope” of employment are compensable; non-work related injuries should not be compensable through workers’ comp.
• Helps injured workers receive disability benefits more quickly and get back on the job sooner!
Urge your senator and representative to vote “YES” on Senate Bill 200/House Bill 194! Please also thank Governor Bill Haslam for leading on this issue and bringing this bill to the General Assembly!
