Contact Congress Now about Card Check Legislation

NOW IS THE TIME TO CONTACT SENATORS AND REPRESENTATIVES
ABOUT CARD CHECK LEGISLATION

Unless all ASA members take action now, the decision on forming a union WILL NOT BE BY SECRET BALLOT.  The new Congress is expected to vote soon on the “Employer Free Choice Act” (HR 1409 & S. 560)  The legislation will take-away an employee’s ability to vote to recognize a union by secret ballot and replace it with the card-check process

Currently, the most common method for determining whether or not employees want a union to represent them is a private ballot election overseen by the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB).  The NLRB provides detailed procedures that ensure a fair election, free of fraud, where employees may cast their vote confidentially without peer pressure or coercion from unions or employers.  Union bosses, however, find private ballot elections to be an impediment to unionization.

ASA’S CONTINUING EFFORTS

If you have any doubts about the urgency and seriousness of this matter, check out the website for the Coalition for a Democratic Workplace at http://www.myprivateballot.com/ – a coalition formed by ASA and other associations and companies who are all very actively working to defeat this legislation.
