Ask Your Senators to Oppose Waxman-Markey or Similar Climate Change Legislation

The U.S. Senate is expected to release its proposed legislation on climate change this fall. Earlier this summer, the House of Representatives, by a slim margin, passed H.R. 2454, the American Clean Energy and Security Act. This bill, also known as Waxman-Markey, aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and cap the amount of carbon that is emitted by U.S. industry by mandating fuel choices to both businesses and consumers with heavy costs attached. The National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) opposes this “anti-jobs” bill. If enacted, this legislation would have a tremendous adverse economic impact on U.S. manufacturing, jobs and energy costs.

To help inform the debate, the NAM and the American Council for Capital Formation (ACCF) have unveiled a new study that assesses the potential economic impacts that would be imposed by H.R. 2454. The key findings in this report include:

· Cumulative Gross Domestic Product (GDP) up to $3.1 trillion (2012-2030)

 · Employment losses up to 2.4 million jobs in 2030

 · Residential electricity price increases up to 50 percent by 2030

 · Gasoline price increases (per gallon) up 26 percent by 2030

Now is the time for your Senator to hear from you on this important issue. Complete the information below and hit “continue” to send an email to your senators. A draft message with information specific to your state will appear. Feel free to edit the message or send as drafted.

We encourage manufacturers, workers and consumers to review the NAM-ACCF study and to share its findings with state and local officials. More information is available at www.nam.org/climatechangereport.
