Urge Congress to Pass a Multi-Year Surface Transportation Authorization Bill

While the American Recovery and Investment Act provided an infusion of funds to the states and other federal agencies to finance critical transportation infrastructure projects that will make progress toward rebuilding our nation’s deteriorating and outdated infrastructure, we believe Congress must pass a comprehensive and robust multi-year surface transportation authorization. The House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee’s Highways and Transit Subcommittee introduced the Surface Transportation Authorization Act of 2009 in June 2009, a $500 billion investment in our nation’s transportation infrastructure that fully reflects the competitive needs of manufacturing in the U.S. economy. The NAM believes that Congress must continue the legislative process and work to move this proposed legislation forward in the coming months because it is critical to our nation’s economic growth strategy.
