Oppose Backdoor Card Check
Support the Workforce Democracy and Fairness Act
Over the past few months, the National Labor Relations Board has issued a series of rulings and proposals that would administratively enact some of the key elements of the Employee Free Choice Act – the “card check” bill defeated in Congress in 2007. Among other provisions, “ambush” union organizing elections could be sprung on retailers in as little as 10 days, and unions could form micro-bargaining units that cherry-pick certain employees within a company or even departments within a store.
Legislation to block these moves – H.R. 3094, the Workforce Democracy and Fairness Act – has been introduced by House Education and Workforce Committee Chairman John Kline, R-Minn.
Chairman Kline’s bill could see a vote on the House floor as soon as the week after Thanksgiving.
Retailers across the country need to contact their members of the House as soon as possible and urge them to vote in favor of H.R. 3094. Without this legislation, the NLRB will be left free to continue tearing down decades’ worth of well-established labor law at the expense of the companies that create America’s jobs.
