Guide to Political Involvement
Below are just some of the ways that you can get involved politically all year round.
•Contact your local, state or national political party to find out how to become active within a party.
AND/OR
•Find an issue that concerns you and learn about the details and players. Write to your elected officials or to the editor of your local paper about it. Or, attend a town hall meeting.
How to Get Involved in Specific Races
If there is a candidate in which you believe, there are a number of things you can do to help him/her.
•Obtain a sign and put it in your yard. Also distribute yard signs to your neighbors, friends and colleagues.
•Obtain a bumper sticker and place it on your car. Give them to your friends and neighbors.
•Speak of your candidate favorably to friends outside of work.
•Volunteer to make phone calls urging people to vote for your candidate. Volunteer for a phone bank and/or call your family, friends and co-workers.
•Hold a “meet the candidate” event in your home. Or, conduct a fundraiser for your candidate in your home.
•Stand at a street corner and hold your candidate’s sign.
•Be available to stand near a polling location and hold a sign in support of your candidate. Most states limit the distance a supporter can be from a polling place. Contact the campaign staff for guidance.
Note: Be sure to do these things on your personal time!
