Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture
Thanks to a community effort, the Smithsonian-affiliated Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture will remain open.
Closing the MAC would have been a detriment to our community. The MAC is a vital tourist attraction, and the Leonardo Da Vinci exhibit this summer is expected to attract 40,000 visitors. The MAC also consistently raises more than $1 million a year in grants and philanthropic contributions.
The state allocated nearly $3 million for the 2011-2013 biennium. The museum originally had its funding cut in the state's proposed budget, but elected officials moved money to the state's Heritage Center fund. The MAC will be able to use this fund for the next two years.
