Agents for Change, a trade association of insurance agents and brokers from across all lines of insurance, is working to reform insurance regulation and enact a national insurance charter to allow producers the option of being regulated at either the federal or the state level. Agents for Change has over 7,000 members nationwide who provide public policy makers with expert advice as they move forward to modernize insurance regulation.
There are distinct advantages for agents and brokers within the framework of a national insurance charter: (1) time spent on licensing issues would be greatly diminished; (2) agents and brokers would greatly increase their ability to serve their customers no matter where they may reside, and; (3) speed to market of products would be greatly enhanced.
Consumers will have access to more products and may save money due to increased efficiencies in regulation. Producers will spend less time on paperwork and have more time to better serve their clients. This is a win-win for anybody who buys or sells an insurance product.
We will be playing a role in the upcoming debate in Congress because a national insurance regulatory system is not only sound public policy it will greatly assist insurance agents and their customers.
