2017 Legislative Session ended May 4, 2017 but Special Session begins August 28

This 2017 Legislative Session GCA introduced bills that proposed to promote efficiency in government spending with focus on improving procurement laws particularly affecting public work construction and also ensuring that unnecessary legislation is defeated. The GCA's mission is to represent its members in all matters related to the construction industry, while improving the quality of construction and protecting the public interest.

Every year the GCA Legislative Committee and members of the Board of Directors do a Capitol Walk Around this year members met with legislators throughout February. Before the 2017 legislative session started GCA hosted a Mock Bid Day presentation and it was a success, which resulted in GCA's priority bills making all the way through conference. While the bills did not pass, GCA will continue to gather data and information to share with legislators to help them understand why improvements to procurement is so important.  Furthermore, bills that did not pass this year are still alive in their current status as we move into the 2018 session due to the legislative biennium calendar.

The GCA Legislative Committee continues to meet monthly and due to the scheduled Special Session starting on August 28 to address the Rail Bill to ensure adequate funding is available to finish all the way to Ala Moana, GCA continues to busy at the Hawaii State Legislature, Honolulu City Council and with overseeing various boards and commissions.
