Welcome to the BP Citizen Action Program—A grassroots voice for BP employees, retirees, neighbors and friends.  The goal of the BP CAP is to provide education on important policy issues that impact our company, our jobs, our families, and the communities where we work, live and play, and when appropriate, call on engaged individuals to contact their legislators.

On this website you will find easily accessible information on specific legislative issues, how your elected officials voted on key BP issues and how to become more involved in the electoral process. We present information to assist you in casting your vote and becoming more involved in the political process. But we don't -- and won't -- tell you how to vote.  That decision is up to you

As a constituent, you are important to your elected officials.  As an employee, you are vital to BP’s success. Through the BP Citizen Action Program, we can all constructively participate in the political process and help shape the environment for BP’s future.

Sincerely,
/bp/images/lizcastrosig.jpg

Lincoln Trivia Contest:

Tony Hayward’s Seven Energy Policy suggestions for the new administration:/bp/images/lizcastrosig.jpg

  1. Energy companies and governments must have confidence in each other if we are to invest the $26 trillion needed to meet expected growth in energy demand over the next 20 years. Fiscal and regulatory polices must be stable and enduring so industry can invest with confidence. And we must make the right policy choices, because inappropriate and ineffective regulation can discourage investment.

  2. A free and open energy market is our best guarantee of energy security.

  3. We must make energy efficiency and energy conservation a priority.

  4. We must begin to address the challenge of climate change.

  5. We must support the development of hydrocarbon resources here in the US and around the world.

  6. We need transitional incentives to make low carbon energy competitive with other energy sources; and to kick start technologies for large scale carbon abatement such as CCS.

  7. And finally, we need a step change in investments in energy technology research, development and deployment.
