A Return to Prosperity in Illinois!
Year-end 2009 saw Illinois’ unemployment rate at 11%.
In the last decade, Illinois ranked 44th in job creation amongst the states.
Real, inflation adjusted wages have declined for most Illinois workers since 2001.
Despite these daunting facts, the Illinois Chamber of Commerce believes economic prosperity can, and will, return to Illinois. That is why we have launched Prosperity Project, a unique platform to help the citizens of Illinois impact our long term economic future.
Illinois’ dire state of affairs is due in large part to the wrong-headed policies and actions of our elected officials. Misguided good intentions, at best, and shear economic ignorance, at worst, have resulted in a faltering economy and the resulting mess our government has become.
Prosperity Project is your source to stay informed on the issues impacting our economy, the avenue in which to communicate directly with policymakers, and the tool to hold them accountable through the ballot box.
Healthcare- Act Now: Fast-tracking National Healthcare Reform is the WRONG Approach
A final passage vote by Congress on the President’s healthcare reform package appears imminent. While we strongly support meaningful, sustainable reform, the concerns of the employer community have been largely ignored. Congress and the President are instead choosing to push a reform that will burden employers with new taxes, new mandates and higher costs.
This is the WRONG path to achieving a healthy economy and lowering our nation’s healthcare costs.

Redistricting-Citizens' Petition Drive for the Illinois Fair Map
Politicians Choosing Voters instead of Voters Choosing Politicians:
Following completion of the federal census at the beginning of each decade, Congressional and legislative district maps are redrawn by the members of the Illinois General Assembly. Obviously, the process has a guaranteed bias towards allowing incumbent legislators to draw maps that favor their own re-election. It is commonly acknowledged that this process conveniently lets politicians choose their voters instead of letting the voters choose their politicians.
There is a voter initiative currently underway that will change the redistricting process called the Citizens’ Petition Drive for the Illinois Fair Map Amendment. A diverse coalition of election reform and pro business groups support this effort and encourage you to engage in the campaign to put a constitutional amendment to address problems with legislative redistricting on the November 2010 ballot. This is time critical!
