Welcome to the Government Relations homepage. MWV believes strongly in employee familiarity and involvement in political and legislative issues that have an impact on each of us, our families and our communities, as well as our company.

Political participation is the cornerstone of American democracy. Yet, in 2010, not even half of all eligible Americans voted. 2012 will bring landmark elections, and we believe all Americans should participate. Not only are we electing a president, but also 435 members of Congress, 33 senators, 11 governors, and countless state officials.

We encourage you to continue to visit this website for information on key MWV company issues and the 2012 elections. It is designed to encourage all MWV employees, regardless of political affiliation, to learn about political issues and to vote your conscience on Election Day 2012. This website does not endorse any specific political candidates, parties or causes.

Legislators & Voting Records
Federal and State Relations lobbyists for MWV work on a bipartisan basis with many elected officials. The search screen, below, can be used to access background information on your federal and state representatives, contact information, as well as voting records on legislation of importance to our company.  A scorecard on voting can be a useful way of “sizing up” the record of an elected official, as key votes can help to illustrate the level of an official’s support on issues that impact MWV and U.S. business interests in general.  A vote on legislation can be an objective measure of an official’s support on issues that affect MWV’s competitive position. It is not, however, the only measure.  For example, an elected official’s voting record does not reflect his or her efforts to support our company’s operations and business strategies or to respond to agency regulations that have an impact on MWV manufacturing plants. MWV is engaged in advocacy efforts to press the Administration and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to make major changes to its Boiler Maximum Achievable Technology (Boiler MACT) air standard. The rule includes emission limits for industrial, commercial, and institutional boilers using fossil fuels and biomass. Achievement of the limits established in this rule would require installation of up to four different air pollution control devices that will conflict with other existing control requirements and could impose tens of billions of dollars in unnecessary costs at thousands of manufacturing facilities across the country.
