Properly Fund the Extension!

As you know, SAFETEA-LU expired on September 30 without passage of a new bill and without an extension of current programs. A three-month extension, which passed in the House, failed to pass in the Senate. Funding is currently being provided for one month (October) under a Continuing Resolution.

There appears to be little if any action in Congress to address this situation. As a result, state DOTs are facing new uncertainty about the future of planned highway programs and are already cancelling or delaying numerous projects. This is an unacceptable situation. Absent a long-term bill, we need an extension that is long enough to provide states with the certainty they need to plan and execute transportation projects that have now been put on hold, and that provides the necessary bridge to get us ultimately to a strong multi-year highway bill. Such legislation would go a long way toward maintaining existing jobs and creating much-needed new ones in our industry.

Please write your House and Senate members today and tell them our nation must have an interim funding extension of sufficient length until an adequately-funded, multi-year transportation bill can be passed.
