Presidential:
Hillary Clinton was able to win her birth state's 20 electoral college states. Illinois remains one of the states that form a blue wall to give Democratic presidential nominees a strong base of support in the Electoral College.

Senate:
U.S. Representative Tammy Duckworth (D) defeated incumbent Senator Mark Kirk for the seat from Illinois.

House:
Two races that were closely followed in Illinois were the Illinois 10th and the Illinois 12th.  Representative Bob Dold (R) lost his re-election bid for the 10th and Representative Mike Bost (R) won his re-election bid in the Illinois 12th.

Other Notable Election Results:
One major ballot question was on the Illinois ballot this year.  The "transportation lockbox" amendment passed with 78.9% of the vote in favor.  The amendment will prevent the Illinois legislature from using transportation funds for non-transportation programs.

Both house of the Illinois statehouse remain in Democratic control.  Neither the Illinois State Senate nor the Illinois House of Representatives were competitive this year.

U.S. Representative Tammy Duckworth (D) defeated incumbent Senator Mark Kirk. Illinois' U.S. Senate seat had been predicted to flip almost from the start of this election cycle. Illinois remains a strong blue state and the voter mix that brought Kirk to the Senate in 2010 could not be duplicated in 2016.
